Non-violent communication in business

Non-violent communication (NVC) is an invaluable tool in your everyday business. This type of communication supports us in our dialogues and allows us to grow.

The power of giraffe language and the danger of howling wolves

Communication plays a crucial role not only here at zflys but also in a dynamic business world where competition is fierce and interactions are complex.

Non-violent communication (NVC), also known as giraffe language, is a method that not only promotes interpersonal interaction, but also has the potential to have a significant impact on success in day-to-day business.

Why giraffe language?

Gewaltfreie Kommunikation

– because the giraffe has the biggest heart of all mammals and, thanks to its long neck, a great neutral view from above (meta level).

What is non-violent communication?

Non-violent communication, developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, is a communication approach that aims to promote understanding and empathy between conversation partners. Certain principles and techniques are used to resolve conflicts and create an atmosphere of trust and cooperation.
Achieving goals together.

With 4 steps to non-violent communication

Step 1 → Observation: Listen actively and pay full attention to the person you are talking to. Evaluations and interpretations have no place here. Finally, we place ourselves in the second row for this step and observe.

Step 2 → Feeling: Do you already know your own feelings? If so, then great! If not, then we’ll have to talk about it again 😉

In this step, we pay close attention to our own feelings and emotions. Where did they suddenly come from and what do they want to tell me?

The CONSCIOUS inner dialog plays the main role in step 2 and step 3.

Step 3 → Need: Are you angry because your partner missed the meeting again? If you have named the feeling, check your needs behind it thoroughly! Why are you angry?

Step 4 → Request: Formulate specific requests aimed at fulfilling your needs.

In this way, giraffe language promotes open and respectful WIN-WIN communication.

The power of giraffe language

This method of language promotes understanding and empathy.
In a business environment that is mixed up by different perspectives and interests, giraffe language can help to minimize misunderstandings and promote understanding between team members.

Mastering conflicts better with the right communication method

Conflicts are unavoidable in everyday business life. By taking into account the needs and feelings of all parties involved, NVC offers a constructive method of conflict resolution. This is why non-violent communication also plays a very important role in mediation.

In addition, the giraffe language strengthens team spirit by promoting a culture of cooperation and respect. This helps teams to work together more efficiently, allowing creative and innovative ideas to emerge more quickly.

The howling of the wolf

While giraffe language is a positive force for everyday business, there is also an alternative form of communication that harbors dangers: wolf howling.

The wolf howl stands for a form of communication that is characterized by aggression, blame and a lack of empathy. Instead of looking for common solutions, the wolf howl is aimed at exercising power and resolving conflicts at the expense of others.

Why howling wolves are dangerous:

Howling like a wolf sometimes contributes to exacerbating conflicts instead of resolving them. The fronts can harden and this can lead to a negative working atmosphere or, even worse, affect productivity.

So it should come as no surprise that howling like a wolf does not contribute in any way to efficient teamwork.

In a working environment where fear and great uncertainty are the order of the day, there is no room for creative solutions and new ideas. Howling wolves can therefore slow down creative development and the willingness to innovate.

Howling like a wolf, on the other hand, harbors dangers that can affect team dynamics and business success. In the fast-paced VUCA world that depends on collaboration, flexibility and creativity, Nonviolent Communication is proving to be a powerful tool to promote a healthy and successful working environment.
